Google held a press event to announce the most “buzzed” topic of the week - Google Buzz. This is Google’s new product, which is being compared to social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Google says Buzz has five key elements:

1. Auto Following
2. Rich, Fast Sharing experience…
3. Support for public and private sharing….
4. In-box integration
5. Just the good stuff…

Watch the video below to get a general idea of what Buzz does.

Google launched three new mobile products for Buzz:
1. The ability to use Buzz from www.Google.com on iPhone/Android
2. Brand new app at buzz.google.com
3.  Maps Update for Nokia Symbian/ Android.

Search Implications

Buzz posts get indexed by search from the page that its posted to (the Google Profile page), just like anything else on the web.

“A lot of people think that if you type in ‘A B C,’ all Google does is crawl the web and return pages that match ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’. And that’s not it,” says Cutts. “We do a lot of sophisticated stuff. Think about synonyms, morphology…all sorts of ways where we can kind of find out, ‘oh, this is really related to them conceptually.’ Whether you want to call it semantic stuff or statistical processing, we do a lot of stuff to try and return relevant documents.”
As part of this prediction, Cutts says Google will continue trying to find new ways to extract “good data” from the web. He mentions Google Squared (which is still in an experimental stage)

Schmidt: “Android Adoption Is About To Explode”

The whole Android strategy, of course, is to offer an low-cost, fully-featured, open-source OS and hand that to the cell phone manufacturers so that they can concentrate more on designing desirable hardware. And what does Google get out of all that? More mobile searches, which could be one of its biggest sources of growth in the coming years.

The way he put it, by making Android open source, Google is hoping to accelerate the adoption of Web-capable smartphones and get everyone searching on them. Given that most analysts expect more than 70 percent of mobile advertising to be search, you can see why Google’s CFO can’t wait to get as many search-friendly Android phones into consumers hands as possible.
